When Mumbai-based couple Radhika & Vikram began conceptualizing their destination wedding, they envisioned a celebration that felt regal yet deeply personal. With 180 close family members and friends travelling from Maharashtra and Gujarat, they chose Udaipur for its unmatched combination of Mewari warmth, lakeside scenery, and architectural magnificence.
The 3-day itinerary was thoughtfully structured to provide guests with ample relaxation time between ceremonies. A sun-drenched Mehendi in the palace’s private Guava Garden transitioned into an energetic, glamorous Sangeet in the Grand Ballroom, followed by sacred Vedic pheras at twilight framed by reflection pools directly overlooking the illuminated City Palace.

Positioned along the western shore of Lake Pichola, The Leela Palace Udaipur is celebrated for its blend of traditional Mewari craftsmanship, brass jharokhas, and intimate lake-edge terraces. With 80 luxury rooms and suites, the property offered the perfect capacity for a near-exclusive family buyout.
The venue allowed Weddings Mine to design distinct spatial zones: daytime ceremonies took advantage of lush garden greenery and shaded royal arches, while evening celebrations moved to the open-air waterfront promenade where reflection pools mirrored the soft glow of floating candles against the dark lake waters.
THE BRIEF
Flawless Logistics for Travelling Families
Radhika and Vikram’s priority was eliminating the operational friction often associated with destination weddings. With senior family elders and small children in attendance, the client requested that airport greetings, baggage handling, check-in procedures, and dietary preferences be handled with total attentiveness.
The creative brief called for an ethereal, understated design language: avoid artificial plastic props in favor of natural fragrant local florals, brass oil lamps, and hand-embroidered textiles that enhanced, rather than overwhelmed, the palace's heritage architecture.

Lakefront Mandap Construction: Engineering a low-profile floral mandap on the waterfront terrace, framed with white jasmine garlands, fresh pink lotus buds, and locally carved stone pedestals that allowed unrestricted views of the lake.
Private Shikara Arrivals: Coordinating private wooden boats adorned with marigolds to transport the groom’s baraat across the lake, synchronized with live Shehnai instrumentalists at the jetty.
Curated Mewari & Jain Menus: Collaborating closely with The Leela Palace's executive chefs to create balanced menus incorporating traditional Rajasthani specialties alongside strict Jain preparation kitchens.
Curfew & Acoustic Architecture: Planning the high-decibel DJ and musical performances inside the acoustically treated ballroom, ensuring outdoor dinners adhered strictly to local heritage zone noise regulations.
THE EXPERIENCE
Three Days of Grace and Celebration
Guests were welcomed on arrival day with a sunset courtyard gathering on the lake promenade. Warm saffron tea, fresh kachoris, and live acoustic santoor melodies set an unhurried, celebratory tone as relatives reunited after months apart.
On the second day, the Guava Garden hosted a vibrant Mehendi featuring artisanal lac bangle crafters and block-printing stations. As night fell, guests transitioned indoors for the Sangeet gala, where choreographed family performances and dynamic lighting created a high-voltage celebration.
The wedding day was highlighted by the baraat arriving by water under clear afternoon skies. The pheras began as the sunset painted the Lake Pichola basin in shades of amber and rose. Over 600 brass lamps floated across the reflection pools, casting a golden shimmer over the sacred fire ceremony.
